Almost My Whole Life

May peace be upon you.

The past couple of days, I went to visit one of the men I literally spend my childhood with, my neighbour. Although we are neighbours, he and his wife have always, always felt like grandparents to me and my sisters. We spent holidays overseas together, especially in their Melaka home which is now no more as health has started to be an issue.

The Prophet pbuh said, “By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer.’’ It was asked, “Who is that, O Messenger of Allah?’’ He said, “One whose neighbour does not feel safe from his evil.” (Sahih Bukhari)

The Hadith above shows just how much being good to one’s neighbour is, and my neighbour and his wife has been….way more than that.

I broke down yesterday, in front of him. I did not mean to, I mean why did I go soft yesterday, in front of an ill man no less? Actually, that was not soft. That just shows how much the both of them has been in my life. So much that seeing them like that broke my heart into a thousand pieces. What do you tell an old man who has decided to accept his fate, and his wife who tries her best to make him feel as comfortable as he can day and night?

I think I can no longer type a longer post else I might just break down where I am. Please send a little prayer over to him and his family.

Oh Allah, please Make his journey towards You easier and Place him amongst those who are Granted Your highest heavens. You Know what is in my heart, and I do not think I can take that much.
